Describe your college experience
Transitioning here was quite a good experience. Honestly at first, I was very nervous and had no clue how life as a student here would be. I felt ready, but then not ready. The day of move in I felt butterflies and got very emotional as I step foot on campus. However, I loved how everything looked here. The beautiful cafe's, restaurants, and gardens were very amazing to look at. Once I settled in my room, I felt better once I unpacked and decorated. It felt like home but at the same time it felt like I was living on my own (I do have a roommate, but she wasn't moved in during that time) and just being independent. Independency was my huge thing I was looking forward to because I get to do stuff on my own and make up my own schedule. Other than that, moving in was pretty smooth! I met a lot of people throughout my stay here & managed to make some connections. It is extremely important to do networking just to have people in your life that could support you and be by your side throughout your academic journey. For me, I was scared of meeting people but being here, my social skills improved. As far as my classes, they are okay. Some are good, some are okay. One thing I learned being here is to be smart on your routine and scheduling. You do get a lot of classwork/homework! It is overwhelming but it's better to get it out of the way ASAP. Overall, my experience was great!
Favorite class
Written Comm has to be my favorite class because it taught me good public speaking skills. I wasn't a big fan of public speaking, but I think it's a good skill to learn outside of class. Thanks to this class I currently have; I opened up my public speaking skill quite a lot. I still need more improvement but it's going to get there!
Career goals
After attending U of I, I am hoping to seek out job in either the field of Wildlife Rehabilitation or a social worker position. There's always an option to do both but I want to take one at a time and see which one fits me more. I am also hoping to travel around the world and advocate for the endangered species that we currently have. I want to participate in organizations as well.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Ideally, a good night in would be spending time with friends and having a nice little karaoke. Bring snacks and sing your favorite songs! Karaoke is all about having fun. I suggest it is a good way to bring out laughter.
