Hi! My name is Katie R and I am a current junior at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign! My major is Journalism with minors in Legal Studies and Public Relations. I love live music, writing, and making art. I was a former tour guide for the university and I can't wait to show new and prospective students around campus! Describe your college experience
I have had an incredible experience at UIUC! My transition freshman year was seamless, as I instantly became involved in various clubs and leadership roles which helped me acclimate to campus and find a community while living away from home for the first time. Through UIUC I have been awarded various alumni merit scholarships, had the opportunity to study abroad, was given the skills needed to attain a prestigious summer internship, and met some of my best friends along the way!
Favorite class
My favorite class I have taken at UIUC is probably 'Virtual and Augmented Reality for Journalists' or 'Art and Cultural Property Law.' Both classes explore niche topics within my two main areas of interest with amazing professors who were experts on the topics. In the Virtual Reality class, we got to use VR headsets and produce a mini documentary using VR technology. In the Art and Cultural Property Law, we explored legal themes like art theft, copyright, parody and more!
Career goals
I plan to attend law school starting in Fall 2026. After law school, I hope to eventually work as a judge or for a firm that handles media/entertainment law!
Ideal way to spend a free night
My favorite way to spend a free night is having a movie night with friends or going out to any of the amazing restraunts off campus!
