Tufts University
Tufts Student Guide
Hi! My name is Tatum and I am a current freshman at Tufts University studying biopsychology, biotechnology, and cognitive brain sciences. I grew up in San Diego, CA, but have spent the past couple years of my life at a boarding school in Connecticut. At Tufts, I'm a member of the woman's club lacrosse team, a representative of Tufts Green Dot (a sexual assault prevention committee), involved in Tufts Neuronetwork, and also an active member of Tufts Giving Camp (a service club dedicated to supporting adults with disabilities).

Describe your college experience
Tufts has done a lot to help aid in the transition to college, particularly through encouraging relationships between advisors, professors, and older students in the community. Everyone here at Tufts has been so incredibly welcoming and dedicated to helping me and my peers settle in, which is incredibly refreshing for me, since I come from a very competitive boarding school with an 'every man for himself' mentality. My pre-orientation program was especially helpful in transitioning. I did FOCUS, which is the community service based preO program, and I was able to meet a ton of fellow freshman and upper classmen during the program, as well as introduce myself into service groups at Tufts.
Favorite class
Psychopathology with Dr. Nicole DeTore. I love learning about various psychological disorders and love how application-based the class has been. We have had several experts in the field of clinical psychology talk to us about their experiences in treating mental disorders, and learn how to recognize signs of mental illness and formulate treatment plans using case studies.
Career goals
I hope to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology or neuroscience and go into clinical research and assessment for psychological diseases and disorders
Ideal way to spend a free night
My favorite nights so far have been those where my friends and I stay on campus and go to campus events, such as comedy shows or sports games, and then spend the rest of the night chatting and laughing together in our dorm.
