Describe your college experience
My transition to graduate school at Tufts University has been an incredible journey of growth and new experiences. Moving from Pakistan to the Boston area for my master’s in Education, I was both nervous and excited, but I’ve been fortunate to have amazing opportunities that have made the transition smoother. I’m honored to have received a generous scholarship that’s helping me pursue my passion for teaching, and I’m also working as a Graduate Assistant, where I get to create content and engage with prospective students, which has been both fulfilling and fun. One of the most exciting parts of my journey has been my teaching residency at Arthur D. Healey School, where I teach 7th-grade ESL. It’s such a rewarding experience, getting to apply what I learn in class to real-life teaching, and I love connecting with my students, especially those who feel a cultural connection to me. I’ve also been making great friends along the way. The Tufts community is diverse, and I’ve enjoyed meeting people from all over the world who share similar passions. Overall, my experience so far has been full of learning, personal growth, and new friendships, and I’m excited for what’s to come!
Favorite class
My favorite class so far has been ED101- INTRO TO TEACHING. What makes it so exciting is the hands-on approach and the variety of engaging activities we do. The class goes beyond traditional lectures, offering creative ways to explore literature and different teaching methods. Every session feels like a new learning adventure, where we discuss classic and contemporary texts and experiment with innovative strategies to bring them to life for students. The dynamic nature of the course has really expanded my perspective on how to teach literature in ways that are both meaningful and fun!
Career goals
After college, I hope to pursue a career in teaching, where I can apply everything I've learned during my master’s program and teaching residency. My goal is to become an educator who not only teaches content but also inspires students to think critically and creatively. I’m particularly passionate about working with diverse student populations and helping them find their voice in the classroom. Ultimately, I want to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel valued and empowered to succeed. Teaching is more than a job for me—it’s a way to make a positive impact on the next generation.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night would be going out and exploring the local scene, especially if it involves live music. I love attending concerts and discovering new artists, as it’s such a fun and energetic way to unwind. Whether it's an intimate indie show or a bigger concert, being around good music and a lively crowd always feels refreshing. If not a concert, I enjoy grabbing dinner with friends at a cozy restaurant or taking a walk through the city to soak in the evening vibes. It’s all about relaxing and enjoying the moment!
