Columbia University
Hi, my name is Madoury and I attend Columbia University.
Hey everyone! I'm Madoury. A few things about me: I love reading and journaling—fun fact, I have four journals! I enjoy playing badminton and occasionally tennis. I'm a STEM major, but I also have a passion for the humanities, so I'm planning to minor in philosophy. Plus, I consider myself a fashionista!

Describe your college experience
Having lived as a high school boarding student in NYC, I thought the transition to Columbia wouldn't be too dramatic. However, I've realized that Columbia is not just part of the city; it's a city of its own. Even while living in NYC, I've had the opportunity to expand my identity and aspirations. The transition to Columbia has been wonderful, allowing me to grow in ways I never thought possible in such a short time.
Favorite class
Literature Humanities (Lit Hum) has been my favorite class so far. It's a required first-year course that encourages students to appreciate classic works like the Iliad, Sappho, and Gilgamesh. This class challenges me to think beyond my modern perspective and to understand the lives and stories of the ancient world.
Career goals
I aspire to become a neuroscience research professor at either Oxford or Columbia. After completing my undergraduate studies, I plan to pursue a master’s in neurolinguistics followed by a PhD in neuroscience.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I enjoy sitting on the steps of Low Library, reading or chatting with friends while eating. I also love attending the jazz nights hosted by ADP, which features live performances. Additionally, I like exploring the city and catching Broadway and ballet shows, especially since Columbia students get discounts!

Madoury was a fantastic tour guide, he truly went above and beyond. He walked us around the campus showing us the various schools of concentration, churches, libraries, cafeterias/ food stores, bookstore, places around campus to relax like the gaming room, places to study and the three story underground gym. He showed us his dorm, including kitchen area and bathrooms. He even shared information about Columbia's healthcare, emergency medical and mental healthcare services. He shared his own experience of his acceptance at Columbia and the dual programs that he is enrolled in. He also shared the great alumni network and the mentorship that helped him determine one of his majors. He shared his experience in several clubs, campus life and the University's philosophy. His tour motivated our son to want to become part of Columbia and buy a school jersey. This didn't happen at any other University that we visited. Madoury is a wonderful, open and honest person/ tour guide and gave his genuine advice and guidance.

Madoury was a great guide. He answered all my questions, showed me around the college and even took me to eat in one of the dining halls. It also helped that he was a pre-med student, which is what I want to be.
