Senior at UCLA, majoring in business economics with a minor in history
My name is Josh, and I am a senior at UCLA. I was born in Michigan, but grew up in Calgary, Canada for my childhood, before moving to Southern California in 2016, where I've been ever since. UCLA has been a very rewarding experience and I'm very happy with my four years here. On campus, I am involved in finance career clubs, club sports like golf, and other clubs like chess and Model UN. I am majoring in business economics with a minor in history. Professionally, I am pursuing a career in finance, and have completed six internships over the course of my time at UCLA. This past 2024 summer, I interned at an investment bank and will be pursuing that career full time in 2025.

Describe your college experience
UCLA is a difficult transition for many students given how big of a campus it is. Going from high school to UCLA, where freshman classes number 6,500+ students is a huge change. I was able to find a great community through meeting as many people as I could my freshman year, and found some of my best friends in those first few weeks. In particular, joining clubs, in my case, professional clubs related to the career I was pursuing, has also given me a strong sense of community, having been with those clubs since freshman/sophomore year until now, where I serve in leadership roles.
Favorite class
Hist 114A & 114B (Roman History). As a history minor, I found the Roman history courses I have taken particularly interesting. Classes at UCLA can be a mixed bag, and a determining factor of your experience is your professor. Professor Greg Woolf who specialized in Roman history is an excellent teacher who made the class content engaging and straightforward, in addition to being an area I am personally interested in.
Career goals
I will be pursuing a career in investment banking after completing 6 internship over the course of my time at UCLA.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I would aim to spend time with friends doing an activity that we all enjoy. This could be something more relaxed like hosting a poker night in our apartment, to going to the Century City mall, enjoying the ocean at Santa Monica, or just having a great conversation over some good food in Westwood near UCLA. Other nights, I would like to use the free night to pursue other goals of mine, like growing my professional skills and knowledge through learning about investing, preparing for my career after college, or something more recreational like golfing with some buddies, getting better at poker, or watching some NHL hockey.
