Describe your college experience

My transition to college has been an exciting and rewarding experience. After attending Tallahassee Community College, I transferred to Florida State University to pursue my degree in civil engineering. Adjusting to a larger campus and more rigorous academics challenged me to grow both academically and personally. One of the highlights of my time at FSU has been engaging in campus life—attending thrilling football games at Doak Campbell Stadium and basketball games has been a great way to connect with the school’s incredible spirit. I’ve also enjoyed staying active by participating in intramural sports like flag football and basketball, which have helped me build friendships and maintain a healthy balance between school and recreation.

Tip for future students

My biggest tip for future students at Florida State University is to get involved and embrace everything the campus has to offer. Attend the football games at Doak Campbell Stadium and basketball games to experience the amazing school spirit—it’s something you’ll never forget. Also, try out intramural sports or join a club to meet new people and balance your academics with fun activities. Academically, don’t hesitate to use resources like tutoring, professor office hours, and study groups. Building connections with your professors and peers can make a huge difference. Lastly, plan your time wisely. Start assignments early, but also leave room to explore Tallahassee and take breaks—it’s all about balance. I wish I’d known how much there is to do here and how important it is to find that mix between studying hard and making the most of your college experience!

Favorite class

Physics was one of the most challenging yet rewarding classes I’ve taken at Florida State University. It felt like my big "welcome to college" class because of its size and the level of rigor it required to navigate successfully. The large lecture setting was initially overwhelming, but it taught me how to adapt and manage my time effectively. Physics pushed me to think critically and solve problems in ways I hadn’t before, and I feel like I learned the most from it because it required consistent effort and focus. It wasn’t just about mastering the material but also about developing skills like persistence and resourcefulness that I know will help me in future classes and beyond.

Career goals

After college, I hope to pursue a career in civil engineering, focusing on projects that positively impact communities, such as sustainable infrastructure or urban development. I’m particularly interested in creating designs that are both functional and environmentally friendly, ensuring that the structures we build today contribute to a better future. Beyond my career in engineering, I also have personal goals, such as completing a triathlon and writing a book, as I want to continue growing and exploring new challenges throughout my life. Ultimately, I hope to strike a balance between professional success and personal fulfillment, making a meaningful difference in the world while pursuing my passions.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night would be a mix of relaxation and fun. I’d start by grabbing dinner with friends at one of my favorite spots in Tallahassee, enjoying good food and good conversation. After that, we might head out to watch a Florida State sports game, whether it's football, basketball, or something else. The energy of the crowd and the excitement of the game always make for a memorable night.
