Describe your college experience
My experience in the Master of Science in Technology Management (MSTM) program at UIUC has been transformative, blending rigorous academic coursework with hands-on industry engagement. The program’s focus on innovation and business leadership has allowed me to bridge technical expertise with strategic management skills. Through courses like Technology Strategy and Project Management, I’ve tackled real-world case studies and collaborated on client-facing projects, such as optimizing supply chain processes for a Fortune 500 company during the practicum. The diverse cohort—comprising engineers, business professionals, and international students—has enriched discussions and broadened my global perspective. Career fairs and networking events facilitated by Gies Career Services have connected me with industry leaders, reinforcing the program’s emphasis on employability. Transitioning to UIUC was seamless thanks to robust orientation programs like Leading Illini Transfers, which introduced me to academic resources and peer networks. The university’s emphasis on experiential learning, such as internships and corporate visits through the Frontiers in Technology series, helped me adapt quickly. Early engagement with faculty advisors ensured alignment of my electives with career goals, such as pursuing a concentration in Business Data Analytics.
Tip for future students
Prioritize time management: Balance coursework with networking and club activities. Engage early: Attend Quad Day to join RSOs like Tech Entrepreneurs Association, Illinois Business Consulting, Indian Graduate Student Association, etc. Leverage career resources: Schedule one-on-one sessions with Gies Career Services for résumé reviews and mock interviews. Explore campus amenities: Use the ARC fitness center or attend free movie nights at the Illini Union.
Favorite class
Data storytelling stands out for its integration of data analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Python) with managerial decision-making. A highlight was developing a predictive model for a retail client, which taught me to translate technical insights into actionable business strategies.
Career goals
Post-graduation, I aim to become a Technology Consultant at a firm like Deloitte or PwC, leveraging UIUC’s STEM designation for extended OPT opportunities. Long-term, I plan to lead digital transformation initiatives in healthcare or fintech, aligning with the program’s focus on innovation
Ideal way to spend a free night
My perfect evening includes grabbing coffee on Green Street, attending a guest lecture at the Siebel Center, and unwinding with friends at a Kams. If the weather’s nice, a sunset picnic at the Arboretum tops the list. Japan house offers a great relaxing walk.
