Hi everyone! My name is Yosyas Ghebru, and I'm currently a junior majoring in Psychology at UNC. I was born in Eritrea but grew up in Charlotte, NC. I have a strong passion for understanding the human mind and behavior, with particular interest in mental health. My ultimate goal is to pursue a master's and eventually a PhD in psychology, specializing in clinical work. Describe your college experience
Transitioning to college was both exciting and challenging for me. The shift from high school to university life required adapting to a new level of independence, academic expectations, and social dynamics. My freshman year came with its ups and downs—navigating a new environment, balancing coursework, and maintaining my mental health. Despite these challenges, I've learned so much about myself, from managing my time more effectively to building a supportive community of friends. As I've progressed, I've grown more comfortable with the demands of college and have found a rhythm that works for me.
Favorite class
My favorite class through my time at UNC has been my Biopsychology class which I am currently enrolled in. The class has caused me to think in different ways than I have before, and as a result I feel as if this class has been the most challenging, yet the most rewarding.
Career goals
My career goals are to pursue a PhD after college so I am able to become an adolescent clinical technician.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal night is to make a homecooked meal while watching a show such as the Blacklist.
