Northeastern University

4th year Northeastern student studying Finance in D'amore-Mckim Business School

I'm a Northeastern University transfer from Greenwich, CT. I originally went to Clemson University but opted for NEU for its academics and urban location. In my experience it's harder to meet people when you transfer into a school, yet I have made many friends and have had a wonderful experience, which I think makes me qualified to speak about what NEU has to offer. I can speak on the dining experience, housing, social life, classes, co-op, and just about anything else an incoming freshman or transfer would want to know about the university.

Describe your college experience

The transition into college wasn't very difficult from an academic standpoint because the high school I went to offered so many AP classes that you could comprise your schedule of them nearly completely. I have had a great experience at NEU. I spent a lot of time at the basketball courts inside the gym where I quickly met many people and eventually friends. Since you are living in a city with seemingly unlimited opportunities, all it takes is a couple friends to explore them with and your college experience will be exciting.

Tip for future students

Don't go to the Marino (the school gym) at 5 pm. Attending the club fair should be mandatory because of how easy it makes networking and finding friends. Fraternities at Northeastern hold very little social weight so joining one should be because you want to join one, not because its social suicide not to, like at southern schools.

Favorite class

The history class I just took, History after 1945, was my favorite class. As a finance major the majority of my classes are business related so having the opportunity to not only learn about an interest, but taking a deep dive into the nuances of recent events, some that affect today, was really a great experience.

Career goals

I want to enter into financial consulting.

Ideal way to spend a free night

If you are underage, attending a party on the "hill" is always an option (Mission Hill). This is where the majority of off campus students live. If you are of age there are unlimited bars and clubs to attend with friends. Even fun ones like the F1 racing bar where you can have a drink and race your friends in a F1 racing simulator. Fenway park offers student night tickets when the Red Sox are playing, and NEU hockey is consistently very good if you want to support the school.

High school or secondary school

Previous college

Clemson University. I transferred because I got into NEU which is a better school academically, also the campus was the town, so there wasn't much else to do outside of the bars and stores nearby. I wanted to live in a city where I wasn't constrained to what my campus had to offer. Also, the food is quite bad in Clemson compared to Boston which was a big deal to me as well.
