Describe your college experience
My college experience at the University of Alabama has been full of opportunities and growth. As a sophomore majoring in Psychology and minoring in Criminal Justice, I’ve been diving deep into how human behavior connects with the criminal justice system. My classes challenge me to think critically about crime, rehabilitation, and how both criminals and law enforcement officers are affected by psychology. What I really appreciate about my classes is that I’m not just learning the basics—I’m gaining real-life skills that I’ll actually use. One of the most eye-opening experiences was in my Developmental Psychology class, where I had to raise a child online. It was basically a parenting simulation, and it taught me so much about child development and decision-making. I love that every professor I’ve had at this school has genuinely tried to help me master the subject. They’re not just teaching—they’re making sure I actually understand and can apply what I’m learning. More than anything, I’m here because I have a real passion for helping people—especially those who need it most. I want to help rehabilitate offenders, lower crime rates, and make a real impact. The University of Alabama is giving me the tools and experiences I need to make that happen, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Tip for future students
If you’re coming to Alabama, my biggest tip is this—get involved in everything you possibly can. Seriously, go to that event, that party, that football game, that study group. It won’t last forever, and you’ll want to look back with no regrets, knowing you made the most of your time here. Freshman year is the time to meet as many people as possible and surround yourself with those who lift you up. Most people settle into their friend groups by sophomore year, so put yourself out there early. Don’t be afraid to talk to new people—you never know who will become a lifelong friend. And don’t stress if you miss a class or show up late. It’s never that serious. Everything will be okay, and one off day won’t ruin your future. I chose Alabama because I wanted the real college experience, and this is the place for that. There are endless opportunities, so many places to be, and the campus itself is beautiful. Plus, walking to class every day in Tuscaloosa’s amazing weather? Can’t beat it. And let’s be real, school spirit here is a 10/10. Roll Tide!
Favorite class
One of the coolest (and funniest) parts of my developmental psychology class is that I’m “raising” a virtual child. It’s part of the coursework, and it really puts everything we’re learning into perspective. Every decision I make affects how my child grows, like socially, emotionally, and cognitively, which makes it feel so real at times. It’s interesting to see how different parenting choices lead to different outcomes. I have to think about things like discipline, education, and social interactions, and then I get to see how those decisions impact my child’s development. It’s honestly made me think a lot more about how early experiences shape people and how important a stable environment is. Since I want to work in criminal psychology, this class is giving me a whole new understanding of how childhood and adolescence play a role in shaping behavior later in life. Plus, it’s just kind of fun to see what kind of parent I’d be (hopefully a good one).
Career goals
My goal is to become a criminal and police therapist, working in criminal investigations to help both offenders and law enforcement. I’m passionate about understanding criminal behavior and believe mental health plays a huge role in crime. By rehabilitating offenders and supporting officers, I hope to make a real difference.
Ideal way to spend a free night
if I ever have a free night, I like to take that time to relax in my apartment for the rest of the night. As much as I like being productive, a free night for me would require staying home.
