Describe your college experience
Many faculty and students here at UMD facilitated the transition into college, transforming what can be a very nerve-wrecking process into an exciting and memorable time. There are many new student events, encouraging students to become involved and get to know others. Many events like the First Look Fair give students the opportunity to find many clubs and activities that interest them from preforming arts club, to various multicultural student unions, to all sorts of club athletics. No matter what you like to do, you are bound to find a club that matches your interests at the First Look Fair. UMD has also eased the transition through orientation events, and offering resources. The school does an amazing job at offering resources to help incoming students feel supported as they embark on their college journey. Everyone here at UMD has been so incredibly welcoming and understanding of the many backgrounds and experiences that the student body possesses.
Favorite class
My favorite class so far has been Bioinformatics and Genomics with Dr. El-Sayed. I enjoyed learning about DNA in high school, and this course delves even further into possible applications and even how to sequence DNA, mRNA, or protein sequences. The professor is very knowledgeable, and he teaches the course in an engaging way, promoting collaboration and critical thinking.
Career goals
After college, I plan to attend Medical School. My final career aspiration is to become a surgeon.
Ideal way to spend a free night
If I have a free night, I love to have a fun night out with friends, either at sports games, or going out to places like Georgetown or DC. Because I am a huge foodie, I love anything involving going to a restaurant and trying new foods.
