University of Virginia
I'm a 4th year student from outside of Boston!
I grew up in Southboro, MA, a small town 40 minutes west of Boston. Luckily, I chose UVA after a family friend urged me to tour and it has been the best decision I have ever made. I've embraced every moment and opportunity UVA has to offer and I love to help others do the same. Here on grounds, I was the VP of a business club, volunteer with kids with disabilities, play lots of intramural sports, and am in greek life. Charlottesville has lots to offer outside of grounds which I'm very familiar with as well. I'm an extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate which makes me the perfect person to give you the raw and honest lay out of the school.

Describe your college experience
When I first got to Virginia, I knew almost no one. I had met a bunch of people online through Instagram who oddly enough are still some of my best friends today. My college experience has been filled with great people and my number one favorite part of the school is the wide variety of people it brings in. I have friends from almost every corner of the US. UVA has been the perfect size for me where you can always meet new people out and about, but also always find people you already know too. I've loved every second of Cville. I enjoy going outside of the school to and explore restaurants, wineries, breweries, golf courses and other outdoor activities in Charlottesville. Charlottesville has the most restaurants per capita, so you can never go dull on finding a new spot. Education wise, the mixture of my classes with outside business clubs has provided me with substantial resources to succeed in my career. UVA's alumni network is massively expansive and they are all working for you. I used it to leverage my job after college doing private equity in New York. There is UVA alum in every city and everyone I've came across has been super helpful.
Tip for future students
Ask more questions. Find out what school size is right for you. Look into the programs there and the ranking of your program. For example, if you're a CS major look into what schools CS programs are ranked versus the overall school ranking. Do your research into student life deeper then what the schools puts out. Every school will say one thing, but the students there all have their own stories.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been my Learn to Groove class with Professor Jospe. He is an extremely talented musician and better person. The class was focused on the African drum the Djembe and highlighted different music styles, cultures, and rhythms as well as a deep focus into mindfulness and the art of grooving. Managing Innovation (under the entrepreneurship track) with Eric Martin of the COMM school was another fantastic class where we focused on creation innovative solutions within large existing companies. It was all about thinking outside the box, conducting research, and creating solutions to problems companies were facing.
Career goals
I will be working as private equity analyst in New York City upon graduation. I hope to stay in that space of software investing for as long as it suites me, but one day hopefully will work on an operational side in the distant future too.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I would say I start my night off with some night hoops under the lights at UVA's memorial gym followed by a burger at Jack Brown's in the downtown mall with my friends. Afterwords, we'd play pool and grab a beer at Miller's right next door.
