University of California, Berkeley
International Student majoring in Legal Studies and Integrative Biology
My name is Reuben and I am a sophomore double majoring in Legal Studies and Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. I am international student and grew up in Ukraine, Serbia and graduated high school in Kenya. I am fairly into sports and play soccer as well as tennis. I am a member of a fraternity here and a writer for the Berkeley Political Review, a newspaper here on campus. In my spare time here I like to go on runs around the Berkeley marina, read on the glade or just spend time with friends and experience the life of a college student here at Berkeley.

Describe your college experience
As an international student it was pretty different and somewhat of a hard adjustment when I first came to Berkeley. It is a fairly big school and it is easy to get lost because of just how big it is. I eventually got involved in clubs and ended up joining a frat which was a really good way to meet people and now that I have been here for a year, the university almost feels small. I usually see people I know on campus and I believe I have found a community here. It is also a great place to find opportunities as people are always doing great things and are happy to talk about their own experiences, and advice.
Favorite class
Statistics 20. It was a great class and while it was challenging, if you studied hard enough and really tried to understand the content you could do well at it. The content itself while difficult, was engineered to force you to actually learn and I enjoyed the challenge of the class as it was very rewarding.
Career goals
I hope to go to law school and end up doing development work in the future. I could also see myself doing journalism as well if law school does not work out, as I lived abroad my entire life and really do enjoy writing.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Usually with a free night I will go to a restaurant with some friends and then we may go back to one of our apartments and watch movies or talk. It is nice living off campus in this way because it does give a lot of options for entertaining people, something you don't get in on campus dorms and housing.
