University of North Carolina

I’ve (mostly) figured out how to navigate college.

Hi! My name is Sarah and I’m currently junior at UNC. I’m majoring in Media and Journalism and minoring in African, African American, and Diaspora Studies. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do and I’m still figuring it out, but UNC is a great place to be if you’re unsure like I was :)

Describe your college experience

I initially wasn’t a big fan of coming to college. I had a really hard time adjusting, and considered taking a break for mental health/financial reasons. But UNC was so helpful and provided vast resources to help me stay here. They are very accommodating and I feel like they truly want me to succeed.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been AAAD 130. This class was with Professor Maya Berry. She is not only an expert in her field but an expert in teaching. Her passion for African and African American history rubbed off on me, and inspired me to become a AAAD minor.

Career goals

I hope to find a job that sustains me financially but also allows me to be content in life.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Staying in with my cat, ordering take-out, and watching horror movies.
