Cornell University

Princal - Graduate student from Cornell University

I'm from India, a country with vibrant cultures and amazing food. Pursuing Masters in Public Health from the amazing IVY League - Cornell University, Ithaca , New York. My interest in public health blossomed during my medical studies. Seeing how healthcare impacts entire communities really sparked something in me. For my undergrad, I actually wrapped up my Doctor of Medicine at Grodno State Medical University, Belarus. When I'm not buried in textbooks, you'll find me hunting for the perfect cup of coffee at nearby campus as our campus is full of beautiful sights as well as cafes.

Describe your college experience

My transition to college has been a mix of excitement and adjustment. Moving into a new environment, especially at a place like Cornell, was a big change. At first, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the rigorous coursework and the fast-paced learning style, but I quickly found my footing. Engaging with classmates has been one of the highlights. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds has broadened my perspective, and participating in class discussions has really deepened my understanding of epidemiology. The collaborative projects have not only helped me learn from my peers but also fostered a sense of community. Overall, my college experience so far has been transformative. I’m learning a lot, both academically and personally, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me! Campus groups, different types of events, peaceful place, and online courses to help with studies.

Favorite class

One of my favorite classes has been Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases. The subject matter is incredibly relevant, especially with the recent global health challenges. I love how the class combines theoretical concepts with real-world applications, allowing us to analyze current outbreaks and public health responses. The discussions are engaging, and the professor encourages critical thinking, which makes for lively debates. Plus, working on group projects where we simulate outbreak investigations has been both fun and educational. It really highlights the importance of teamwork in public health. It includes some math as we have to calculate incidence and prevalence rate and many more formulas.

Career goals

After college, I hope to pursue a career in public health, specifically focusing on epidemiology and disease prevention. I’m particularly interested in working with government agencies or non-profits to address infectious disease outbreaks and improve community health outcomes. Long-term, I’d love to be involved in research that informs public health policy and practices. I’m also considering pursuing a PhD to further specialize in my areas of interest. Ultimately, I want to make a tangible impact on public health and contribute to improving health equity.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night would start with making a delicious dinner, maybe trying out a new recipe. After that, I’d settle in for a cozy movie marathon, perhaps focusing on a favorite anime or a thrilling suspense film. To keep my mind engaged, I’d squeeze in a few rounds of chess or tackle some Sudoku puzzles. I’d enjoy the evening with some snacks, and maybe invite a friend over to share the experience. It would be a nice balance of relaxation, creativity, and a little friendly competition! Sometimes I explore the cafes for a hot coffee or a bagel...just to roam around our Cornell Campus as it is the coziest place as well.
