University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) Private Tour Guide

My name is Grace Willcox. I have lived in the South for the majority of my life, and for the last five years, I have lived locally in Tuscaloosa. My father, also a student, told me I should walk everywhere if I could. I did so and managed to find out many routes to classes. In 2024, I met my best friend, the 'Crimson Ride' buses. They are incredibly useful and have allowed me to see parts of the campus I never would have. I want to give incoming students a heads up about how to get around campus, effectively, while still being able to eat.

Hometown

I was raised in Colombus, Georgia, but moved to Dupont, Washington St., and then to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I spent the first three years of my academic career as a dual enrollment student, giving me the advantage of explaining aspects such as technology and registration to other students. Currently, I am a UA sophomore who spends most of her time around campus walking or taking buses.

Describe your college experience

I started college at 15 years old as a University of Alabama Early College Student. I have had my highs and lows in learning how to combat the evil forces of time management, procrastination, and emotional management. Since my start in 2020, I have acquired skills that most students will not have coming into college. Little things like how you send emails, how you handle calls, and how accommodating yourself for your own success in learning have helped me in the long run. I am not the greatest student, but there are still plenty of things I can help you with.

Tip for future students

Orientation may not be your style it is loud and overwhelming, but pay attention to any information about classes and the resources available to you. Any day, there are tiny tables out where they give out freebies, and ask them what they are about. You can get it on an organization that way. Be ready to be build your resume from the get the sooner the better.

Favorite class

HY 113, taught by Dr. Sean Han, taught me about the very early lives of the people in what Westerners see as East Asia. From history to ancient sites from 11,000 B.C. in Japan all the way to the Song Dynasty of China. Despite focusing on Japan, China, and the Korean Peninsula, other countries such as Vietnam and Monogolia come up in conversation. It was an incredible experience.

Career goals

I am hoping to work as a diplomat in the Foreign Affairs Department of the United States.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I would either finish homework or play video games.
