University of Tennessee
UTK Friendly Campus Tour Guide!
Hi (potential) Vols!! My name is Emily and I am currently a Junior at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I participate in all our university has to offer, like our marching band: The Pride of the Southland. I would consider myself an extroverted and outgoing person who is not afraid to tell the “truths” about UTK, like housing shortages and parkings problems.

Describe your college experience
Attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been an incredible journey of growth and discovery. While adapting to college life was challenging at first, I found my place through the marching band and joining organizations that connected me with amazing friends. I’ve grown to love the program I’m in, as it not only excites me academically but also helps me build meaningful connections in my field. Being part of a university with strong sports teams adds an extra layer of excitement and pride to the experience. Overall, UTK has been a place where I’ve truly found my footing and flourished.
Tip for future students
Some Simple Tips for Future Vols: - Splurge for the top parking pass, our campus is very large and hilly - Look for “next year” housing while you are in your first semester! - Get a GOOD pair of walking shoes, our campus is called “Rocky Top” for a reason. - Choose a random roommate! I did it for both of my years on campus and it was the best decision I made. Roommates = automatic friends!!
Favorite class
My favorite class was actually my Statistics class! This was surprising to me even as Statistics is a required general education course. However, UTK hired such a good math professor, I learned more about how to teach students than the math itself. I ended that class with an A+ and a heightened sense of confidence in myself.
Career goals
I hope to become an Elementary General Music Teacher after I graduate! I love to work with young children and foster a new love for music.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love to go out with friends on a free night! The city of Knoxville is beautiful with so many sights to see and good places to eat.
